The carbon monoxide news letter
You may ask why we need to write a news letter when the web site is full of information, www.carbonmonoxidekills.com is the world’s most utilized web site for carbon monoxide related issues, therein lays the problem. The site is over 160 pages long and whilst we have made it as easy to navigate as possible and we have included video to make the information easier to access, its lots of information to take in. We believe that there is a massive opportunity to get the message out in smaller more manageable chunks but also new and relevant information. There is great information that is disseminated that does not hit the mark, for instance The W.H.O. released a new low level standard for indoor carbon monoxide. I also know that there are initiatives undertaken by fire fighters and other organizations all of the time. I spoke with the lead firefighter on one of these initiatives, they had a long meeting about which safe low level their study should work to, they settled on a figure of 10ppm as their low level. Just think if there had been a recognized low level that had been available to everyone in this position… There is, the new W.H.O. low level limit which was arrived at by some of the World’s most eminent scientists was 6.5ppm (not a million miles away from the 10ppm that was settled at). The problem is that most professionals that are involved with the subject of carbon monoxide are not aware of these new recommendations. In fact there are 100’s of recommended safe levels over many different organizations throughout the world, why, because everyone is doing their own thing in the absence of a recognized transparent publicized authority.
Imagine the time effort and money that would have been saved in the hundreds of studies and initiatives that have gone on over the years if one standard had been adopted. The standard is not some Mickey Mouse plucked out of the air figure but one that in and of itself cost a great deal of money to come up with and is recommended by The World Health Organization. Now further think that if all of the studies and initiatives had been compiled to the same standard, they would have been interrelated and relevant to each other. The future studies would be less expensive and there would be no duplication.
The point of a news letter is to make everyone aware of these new standards when they happen, we can also make everyone mindful of the very useful initiatives that are carried out on an almost weekly basis. We have a great deal of information but there is more out there, the problem is as Donald Rumsfeld once said, “We don’t know what we don’t know?” We plan to make all the information available on a member’s only area to pool the resources and make all the studies available to all professionals involved in the area of carbon monoxide research.
To do this we need buy-in from as many organizations as possible so that we can best utilize the information to its greatest effect. So please sign up today on the form below and make the world better informed about the many facets of carbon monoxide poison its dangers and causes and ultimately the prevention of deaths and injury.
